Description:

A fitting choice for April Fool's Day, the Seattle Phil's latest eclectic concert builds to a climax with Edward Elgar's brilliant and much-debated "Enigma Variations", an appropriately mysterious work full of clever personal allusions and a yet-unsolved riddle regarding its principal theme. But there's plenty of musical excitement preceding that piece, including a performance by Alena Hove, the young winner of the Philharmonic's 2016 Don Bushell Competition, who'll show her stuff on Korngold's cinematic-sounding Violin Concerto. Also on tap are the U.S. premiere of Symphony No. 2 by the acclaimed French composer Elsa Barraine, as well as short works by Holst ("Capriccio") and Delius ("On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring"). Adam Stern conducts ""Something Might Be Made of That Tune"" at Benaroya Hall.
